Wagiya FC rolled into the FFB Stadium Saturday night to be hosted by a singing Belmopan Bandits. Some 15 minutes into the Belmopan team pushing the pace when Amilton sets up El Capitan Elroy Smith and really he should have done better with his look. Ian Gaynair then makes a fiery forward to deliver a perfect splice to Brandon Cacho whose header glances off the crossbar. Wagiya finally gets some offense going when Ervin Middleton finds Hassan Lucas off the set piece only to see the header travel outside the sticks. Some 30 minutes in Eugene Martinez puts fast on this set piece, credit Elroy Smith will with the direction on goalkeeper Glenford Chimilio – give the goal to Martinez as Belmopan Bandits take a 1 – zip lead. Fresh into 2nd half Amilton fires this right foot at goal in a bid to double the bandits lead goalkeeper Chimilio does enough to maintain the score. Some 8 minutes later, Jordy Polanco lands this sinker behind Glenford Chimilio as the Bandits double their lead. Folks the Bandits were simply dominating against the Dangriga team. Jordy Polanco finds Dale Pelayo Sr. who heads to Rai West and it’s a 3 – zip lead that remains to the long whistle. Belmopan remains atop the standings with 15 points, Police maintained 2nd place with 14 points after blanking Verdes 2 – zip and the BDF held on to 2nd place by stopping Placencia Assassins 3 to 1. Looking to week 9 on Saturday the 19th at 7:30 PM Placencia Assassins will host Police United inside the Michael Ashcroft. On Sunday the B.D.F. takes on a floundering Wagiya at 3:30 PM at the MCC Grounds and out west Verdes will look to right itself against a red hot Belmopan Bandits.

Now let’s play catch up on the NEBL as a monster show was staged Friday night when Smart Belize Hurricanes held home court in the BES gym against the defending champion San Pedro Tigersharks. The Hurricanes came out raging, Darwin Leslie misses the lay up so Mr. MVP Farron Lauriano powers it home with both hands. On the rebound pass Darwin Leslie finds Lauriano unattended so he shows off his long range jumper. Farron would lead all players with 29 points, and continues his doubles play with 11 rebounds and would post the highest efficiency rating with 33. Andrew Ortiz then gets busy for San Pedro as he comes down with the rebound and the point back. Ortiz would lead his team on the boards with 11 and net for 8 points. At the end of the 1st quarter the Hurricanes have spirited to a 25 – 15 lead. In the 2nd Brian White returned to his 2 double play as he grabs the rebound and hits the put back. He would tally 15 points and would chair the boards with a whopping 17 rebounds. Folks in the 2nd the Hurricanes would only score 12 points and half of it came from Farron Lauriano while San Pedro could only come up with 13 of their own for the 37 -28 at the half. In the 3rd the American Caleb Sutton takes Lauriano to school to finish the finger roll. Gene Myvette them display his shells as he attacks the run and would finish with 12 points. Andrew Ortiz then leaves Brian White hanging with this baseline move. Mr. Caleb Sutton wants 3, Mr. Caleb Sutton gets 3 and at the end of 3 the Hurricanes lead has been whittled down to 3. It’s a brand new ballgame in the 4th when Ashton Edwards lands this triple as the defending champion take a 57 – 55 lead. Talk about a big time player, Darwin Leslie comes right back with the answer and would total 9 points as he restores the Hurricanes lead. Caleb Sutton ties the ballgame with this triple. Unstoppable Brian White hangs tough down low for the bucket and would hit the freebie. Darwin Leslie then penetrates to unleash the dagger. Leroy Lauriano then takes on the San Pedro defense – he hits the layup and sinks the extra point for his 11 game total. Smart Belize Hurricanes post the 78 – 69 win for a league leading 9 and 1 record. In other results from around the league Belmopan Bandits turned Belize City No Limit 81 – 70, Cayo Western Ballaz hurt Dangriga Warriors 63 – 31 but the Warriors tool it out on the Independence Thunderbolts 111 – 77.

Changing gears folks the 38th Annual UB Relathon got off Sunday in the circle of Love and Unity with a moment of prayer. And here is the start of 48:75 miles female run from Belmopan to the ITVET Complex in Belize City. Their male counterparts are in San Ignacio for the start from Cayo to ITVET – a distance of some 67.75 miles. Hey Amanda, you posted the best time for the mile in 6 minutes, 9 seconds. Don’t look right now Wilford Usher – you put up 5 minutes, 10 seconds – the overall best but Amanda is only 1 minutes, 1 second off your pace. Nevertheless the girls won their 18th event this year, to tie then number of wins. The males finishes some 2:44 off the pace their 67.75 miles. The females are boss in 2016 but we’re tied in total wins.

Finally the Central Secondary Schools softball competition is in full swing. Latest result shows Ladyville Tech beat Wesley females 11 – 5, SJC males handles Wesley 16 to 6, Ladyville Tech then got a 12 – zip W over EP Yorke and Gwen Liz males got the 7 – 3 big W over SJC.
