A Woman Police Constable is Shot in the Line of Duty

Sheneah Caliz

Woman Police Constable Sheneah Caliz is alive tonight after being shot in the head by a robber caught in the act. Caliz and two other officers were on routine patrol on Albert Street Monday at around seven-thirty P.M. when they interrupted a robbery in progress. It was a brazen attempt to grab a cash bag being taken to the Scotia Bank night depository by two security guards on a motorcycle, and it could have been a bloody murder as one of the robbers sprayed the responding Police vehicle with lead. Three officers were in the pickup, but only Caliz was hit. Tonight the shooter is in custody, while the injured W.P.C. recovers and Police are grateful that they aren’t planning a funeral for one of their own killed in the line of duty.

“A Police mobile was on Albert Street travelling in a North to South direction when reaching the vicinity of Scotia Bank they saw a male person searching another male person who was on the pavement. Upon seeing this the Police stopped to investigate what was taking place, believing that it was a robbery. Upon the vehicle coming to a halt, the male person who was searching the one on the ground had another person beside him standing and when the Police were about to alight the vehicle one of them fired several shots at the Police officers and that resulted in the Woman Police Constable who is WPC Caliz receiving gunshot wounds to the head and the right index finger. The gunshot wound to the head is not life-threatening. It is practically a graze, but the bullet is lodged between the skull and the skin so it did not protrude into the skull area so thank goodness for that. She is recovering at the hospital. I must say that the quick response from the GSU immediately after the incident resulted in the detention of one Jamal Jackson and the recovery of a 9mm pistol which the Police now have as an exhibit in this matter. After the incident took place Jackson ran through a yard down Prince Street area and he apparently got a large cut wound to the foot and was bleeding profusely as a result of that cut wound so he too has received treatment at the hospital in relation to the injuries he sustained while escaping from the scene.”

  1. Citizen Concern says:

Very good display of courage from the Police Woman, but this level of robbery will teach the Police officers that they cannot trust any unusual act and need to pull their gun immediately and request that all parties keep motionless and ready for any action.

  2. Timber says:

And this same Jamal Jackson is out on the street because of the ineptitude of the legal system, the lack of adequate education of our police force and the lack of will power of this government to do anything about these crimes. These are the types of people who the UDP appeal to and go to in order to obtain votes. I hope this officer recovers fully. Isn’t this the same Jamal Jackson who was charged in 2010 for the murder of the Nigerian worked at Biltmore? He’s on the street a free man and had probably committed other crimes prior to this one. WE NEED TO BRING BACK HANGING IN BELIZE! I digress.

  3. Rod says:

This is what happens when you have a corrupt impotent incompetent pm and gov so all you udp hope your not next.
