Are B.T.L. Employees Dissatisfied with Executive Chairman Anwar Barrow?

There is trouble brewing at the government owned Belize Telemedia Limited.  This afternoon during their lunch break, dozens of staffers, members of the Belize Communication Workers Union, assembled outside of the Esquivel Telecom Center, the company’s headquarters on Saint Thomas Street.  They met for approximately thirty minutes to discuss a range of issues affecting workers at the utility company. While they did not offer comments, the concerns, we understand, include unfair appraisals, as well as poor management practices. The gathering at midday preceded a meeting of the board this evening, but there are no details available on what was discussed. News Five understands that Chairman of B.T.L.’s Executive Committee, Anwar Barrow, is presently out of the country.  According to sources within the company, Chairman Barrow is purportedly disregarding a collective bargaining agreement, which is presently in effect between employees and management.  While BCWU General Secretary Leann Bardalez declined comment, we were informed that the union is preparing to take action in the days ahead.  Since assuming chairmanship of B.T.L., Barrow has come under fire from the BCWU on a previous occasion.  In September of last year, the union issued a scathing release soundly criticizing government and B.T.L. management for failure to act in good faith.  This was in respect of a settlement with Lord Michael Ashcroft as part of a compensation package for the nationalization of the company in 2009.  This time around, however, we are made to understand that discontented members of staff are demanding Barrow’s resignation. A comment by text from B.T.L. management says, “B.T.L. is working toward a performance culture which involves expectation setting, ongoing feedback and coaching done in a way that documents the specifics of the issue and lays out the necessary steps to improve employee’s performance. We refute any claim that the company is engaged in any poor management practices.  We have received no formal complaints from the union in respect to any B.T.L. management practice that is inconsistent with the collective bargaining agreement or the labour laws of Belize.”

Not only BTL employees are pissed-all of us who use BTL internet. It was Papa Barrow’s biggest mistake to put a whipper snapper wanna be in the captain’s seat. He talks dumb, he thinks he knows what is going on but doesn’t, Duncan, Miranda and a slew of others have left because of him. This is why nepotism is a NO NO. BTL is in the doldrums. He uses his position to threaten people and seek favors for himself and tries to seduce females with his perceived power and influence on appraisals. He’s been rejected and disappointed. Its just a matter of time before his daddy is no longer PM and he returns to being a little nobody who wants to be one of the big boys. He really has some insecurity issues. The one thing he is good at is placing nice big ads in newspapers desperately seeking help for him and BTL. And I am a UDP.

but I taught “Better is yet to come” what happen mein? Nepotism at it’s best. This family (barrow) is really sucking the blood out of the Belizeans, being red or blue because at the end we have to deal with their atrocities. And hope that something is done for this brothers and sister and to learn not to vote for color but for people that really have interest in our country.

Everyone wants great 4G and lazy employees wont make that happen. Some employees at BTL only lazy, put you on long phone wait time, poor customer service with only one person at the desk when the waiting room is full. Employers know these lazy employees all too well and so long as the employer issues your 3 warnings, OUT my friend, -OUT! So all uno lazy employees, and all uno people that like complain bout poor service, get your act together.
