Joseph Lopez

The second shooting on south side Belize City occurred an hour later on Boots Crescent near the Saint John Vianney Primary School. As we reported on Monday, a seventeen year old was shot from behind by a lone gunman on bicycle as he headed towards Rivero Street Extension. Police said today that within hours, they detained and later charged twenty year old Joseph Lopez for the crime.

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson, Acting Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“The second shooting occurred about an hour after. That one occurred on Boots Crescent where a lone gunman again rode up behind the individual, fired several shots, one of which caught him in his upper back. Since then we have arrested and charged someone for that as well.”

“We have none at this time. It’s just an incident that the weekend saw two shootings and shootings are nothing new to south side. We have been very successful in keeping it to a minimal and to my mind; two incident over the weekend is actually minimal.”

“So what are you guys doing, interventions, for this?”

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson

“We continue our meet and greet, we continue to meet with the public. And again like I said, with the meet and greet, we have been seeing a lot of success and the same meet and greet assisted us in getting information that led to the two arrests in these shootings.”

Lopez appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer on Monday and arraigned for Attempted Murder, Dangerous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April fourth.
