Colombian Dance Group ‘A Puro Tango’ in Belize

For the first time in Belize, the three-time tango world champion dancers from South America will be performing locally. On Thursday and Friday nights at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts, the Colombian Dance Group “A Puro Tango” will grace the stage with traditional and contemporary tango dances. The entire family is in for a treat because A Puro Tango will be performing with their live band, featuring Colombian musicians and singers. Dancer Tanya Gutierrez has been professionally dancing with the group for five years and told News Five more.

“It’s a big performance. We are world tango champions for three times. It’s a big show where you will see traditional tango and contemporary tango too with tricks on air. It’s for all kinds of people. You will enjoy our show because it is for child, adult, old people because it is a history of the tango. Traditional is more calm, close embrace and you can enjoy it more. And the end of the show is more tricks, on air. And the music too; the beginning is more traditional and then it is more contemporary. In the group, I am dancing for five years, but in my life, I have been dancing since I was four years old…I was dancing all of my life. I expect that everybody comes and can’t miss this show because it is a professional show with dancers, musicians and singers. It’s completely live, with music in live…with piano, banjo and bass; one singer is a leading voice; I the champion of the voice in Colombia too. And the dancers are four couples of professional tango dancers and we are champions for three times.”

The show starts at eight p.m. at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are available at the Bliss Ticket Booth; general admission is twenty dollars and forty reserved. The show then goes to San Pedro on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets on the island are available at Reef Radio and Island Gear Boutique.
