Plus Television’s On-Air License Will Be Renewed

On February fourth, Managing Director of Plus Television Louis Wade was informed by the Belize Broadcasting Authority that his payment for the renewal of his on-air license would not be accepted – meaning his license to broadcast would not be renewed. The BBA claimed that Plus had not been broadcasting over the air which was an interesting assertion, since Plus Television has been broadcasting since 2011, and even has its own twenty-four station. So was it political victimization? An oversight? An error? Well according to the BBA it was misinformation provided by the Public Utilities Commission. In a letter to Wade dated February eleventh, BBA Chairman Louis Leslie explains that the Board of the BBA is guided by the recommendations and advice of the PUC. He claimed that the PUC reported that Plus Television was not transmitting a television signal, and in fact the station was not included in a list provided of TV stations. That was the basis of the refusal, but in this new letter Leslie explains that he has received information which confirms that Plus TV is indeed transmitting. In closing, Leslie informs Wade that, “you can now make payment for the renewal of your on-air license for the year 2016.”
