Alert: Businesses Hit by Fake Cops in Belize City

Police are on the lookout for two robbers who are operating in the city and impersonating cops. Within the past twenty-four hours, they struck twice. In the first incident, the wannabe cops hit Channel Broadcasting Cable just before midnight on Wednesday. A security guard at the cable company said he heard a loud bang and saw a light at the front of the compound on C Street in Belize City. He heard someone shout, “Police, Police, come out.” He did so and met two men wearing police uniforms; one carried a twelve-gauge shotgun, while the other held a flashlight. The duo said that they had received a report about a firearm being concealed on the premises and would carry out a search. When the search turned up empty-handed, the man with the flashlight asked the security guard to see his weapon, but that was quickly taken away from him. The second incident took place at Harpy Security Firm located on Antelope Street Extension where a dispatcher opened the door to a so-called police officer. When she allowed him inside the building, he pulled out a knife, grabbed her and took her inside the main office, demanding that she open the doors. The fake cop went on to search the premises, but couldn’t find anything. The police have issued a release advising business owners to secure their properties.

Their tactics were more convincing than their uniforms. Thanks GSU. Way to go.
