Will Cordel Hyde be Appointed Senior Member of National Executive?

Briceño was joined at the swearing in by Cordel Hyde, formerly an opponent for leadership of the P.U.P.  The parallel campaigns of both men were cordial and never traversed into hostile waters, and Briceño says that relationship will continue, and will even be enhanced in the days ahead.

“I’ve always said that the Hon. Cordel Hyde has to play a critical role in the rebuilding and the re-strengthening of the party as we move to get to Belmopan in the next election. I have met with him and he is here with us today and I am very pleased that he has joined me in this very important occasion and it goes to show his commitment to the work ahead of us. We are going to be finding ways how we can use him to the maximum of his abilities. We all know that he has a lot of talent and abilities and that he has a way to connect with people and he is going to be playing a very important role, a critical role in preparing the message that we want to present to the people, the policies that we want to present to the people to make sure that all Belizeans feel that they are a part of the work that we do and they all believe that they have something at stake.”

“There’s no time table really; it’s early in the game for us to figure out what is the best fit. You are putting me out on the limb. It’s hard for me to say; that’s not entirely up to me. It is up to the party leader and what role he sees me playing going forward and if we can reach some agreement. But it is early in the game; we’ll work that out I’m sure because we have to win—we have to win.”

“You talk about unity sir, you personally and also as a party of the People’ United Party, do you believe that Johnny Briceño is the guy to unify the People’ United Party?”

Cordel Hyde

“Yes man; the people spoke clearly about that last week Sunday; that they believe John to be the person to lead us forward. And in taking us forward, it means bringing us all together. You know I am optimistic; I’m not naïve. I know that it won’t be a bed of roses, but this is a huge party. Sixty-seven thousand persons voted for us on November fourth; it means we are not going to agree on everything.  There are lots of things we will disagree on; not even in a family of four or five people will you have total agreement. Mothers and fathers disagree all the time, brothers and sisters. That’s part of the give and take in politics; at the end of the day, it is how you communicate with each other, how much respect you give each other. If we can establish, if John can establish an atmosphere of collegiality where people are not afraid to express how they feel on certain things and we have that kind of dynamic engagement, then I think it can only bear good fruit.  But John is the man; he was the one who was elected and I think we can have confidence that he’ll get the job done.”

While I don’t want to rain on the PUP parade, I am completely disappointed with the candidates for leadership of the party. Johnny is a nice fellow but he is not a leader!! The honorable Cordel Hyde is not a leader either

  2. Ricky Malthus says:

to continue I still see the party listing. Johnny is popular but can he put together a team, politics aside, to resurrect the Belizean economy? Belize is in some really rough waters and to survive as a nation state, Johnny has to join battle with the international community to rescue Belize from political, economic, social, and legal obliteration. Barrow cannot do it. Can johnny the wonder boy do it ?

  3. Joe Blank says:

This generation from the last PUP generation are on their last try. Their selfishness has gifted the UDP undeserved victories. Cordel and Mark sabotaged a victory in 2012, Said’s refusal to go sabotaged any chance of a PUP victory, and sabotage by all players when the others were leading the party. Guys, get your shit together or give way to a newer generation.
