2 Men Shot in Southside Belize City

Two men were shot  on Wednesday night in south side Belize City just before seven o’clock, shattering a period of relative quiet on the streets since the beginning of the year.  Twenty-six-year-old Benua Andrews was hit twice on the chest and is in a stable condition at the K.H.M.H. His friend, twenty-six-year-old Tyron Myers was injured on the left knee, right thigh and left elbow. Both were standing at the corner of Marigold Lane and Jasmine Street near an abandoned house, which residents say is used to peddle drugs, when a lone gunman opened fire on them. Persons in the neighborhood are in fear of their lives and wished not to appear on camera today.  As the investigations continue, police have detained one man, but a motive behind the attempted murder remains unknown.

Sgt. Roberto Novelo, N.C.O., C.I.B., Precinct 2, Belize City Police

“Around 7:12 p.m., police visited the K.H.M.H. where they saw Benua Andrews, twenty-six years of age of Belize City, suffering from apparent gunshots to the left and right side of chest. Also seen was twenty-six year old Tyron Myers; he was seen with apparent gunshot to the left elbow, left knee and right thigh. Initial investigations reveal that they both were standing at the corner of Jasmine and Marigold Lane when a male person approached them and fired several shots towards their direction causing the mentioned injuries. Subsequently they were transferred to the K.H.M.H. where they are now in a stable condition.”
