How Will the P.U.P. Finance Operations?

John Briceño

Earlier we told you about the swearing in of John Briceño as the new leader of the P.U.P.  Briceño confirmed that following his round of meetings post-Convention victory, he has received the support of P.U.P. parliamentarians in the House of Representatives. This means that the next order of political business for Briceño will be his swearing in as the Leader of the Opposition in the House, which takes place next Monday morning when he takes the oath before the Governor General.  And then the real work will start, which in the Opposition’s case is an expensive venture. During his last three year stint as leader, Briceño is said to have spent close to three million dollars to keep the P.U.P. afloat. He anticipates that it will be more of a team effort this time around.

John Briceño, Leader, People’s United Party

“I need to sit down with the Treasurer and for him to work on a budget and then for him to state to see that he as the treasurer will have to lead the charge for fundraising of money but we do expect that we are going to get assistance from our supporters. I mean be it big business people or even the small people at the ground. Who have indicated that they are prepared to put in even if it is a ten dollars a month for the party that they are prepared to do. We have sixty-seven thousand people that voted for us. They all have a stake and apart form that we have thousands more out there that want to see a P.U.P. government and it is going to be a consorted effort from all of us to be able to fund this party in order for it to be a fighting ship so that we can form the next government.”
