OW Police Find Drugs and Ammunition

Also in Orange Walk, officers have been conducting anti-drug operations on a weekly basis. On Monday morning, a search in some bushes on Savannah Street in Orange Walk Town led to the discovery of a plastic bag containing thirteen, sixteen-gauge cartridges and ten point one grams of cannabis. There were no arrests and the items were kept by the police. But two days earlier, in San Felipe Village, the police made a bigger find of twelve pounds of weed in a farm off a feeder road in the village. The drugs were packed in plastic bags and are now in the possession of the police. Assistant Superintendent Selvyn Tillett spoke to News Five today about the incident.

ASP Selvyn Tillett, O.C., Orange Walk Police Formation

“On Saturday afternoon, Orange Walk Police launched an antidrug operation in the village of San Felipe where about a mile and a half out of the village in a pasture, we discovered a black plastic bag containing suspected cannabis. It was labeled as found property, brought to the police station totall9ing twelve pounds of marijuana.”

“Sir any indication as to who the drugs belonged to? People or drug peddlers operating in that area?”

“We have an idea who was behind it. That is why we launched that operation, but apparently we were unable to catch the person.”

Duane Moody

“Sir, we’ve noticed that probably in the last month and a half, there have been these seizures of large quantities of drugs. Is this something that is going unabated in orange Walk District?”

ASP Selvyn Tillett

“Well I would say these seizures do occur because we launch operation on a weekly basis—two or three times a week. Most of these operations are intelligence-driven operations.”

“Do you have any idea where the drugs may have originated from?”

ASP Selvyn Tillett

“Well different areas. Some come from Mexican side; some come from villages way in the outskirts of Orange Walk District.”
