Briceño’s Slate is Victorious over Fonseca’s Slate

But while all eyes were on the leadership race, both John Briceño and Francis Fonseca also fielded slates for the positions available. Those were Chairman, Deputy Leader North and South and National Communications Director. For the Chairman’s post, Henry Charles Usher from the Briceño camp contested Oscar Requeña from the Fonseca camp. For Deputy Leader North Jose Abelardo Mai from the Briceño camp went up against Florencio Marin Jr. from the Fonseca camp. For Deputy Leader South Rodwell Ferguson from the Briceño camp contested Mike Espat from the Fonseca camp. And for National Communications Director, Anthony Mahler from the Briceño camp went up against Dolores Balderamos-Garcia from the Fonseca camp. Secretary-General Myrtle Palacio announced the results late Sunday night.

“The work really starts tomorrow right? The Party has pretty much lost every single election since 2004 and that is telling us something, that the message isn’t resonating with the people. We have to rebrand the Party. We have to get back to the roots of the Party, we have to communicate and communication is two ways. It can’t be just one way.”

Henry Charles Usher, P.U.P. Chairman

“Let me first thank Mr. Requeña for all the work that he has been doing over the past few weeks with the campaign, meeting all the delegates and so forth. Oscar and I are colleagues, we are friends and he launched a good campaign. But I believe that from the results today, it shows that the delegates appreciate the work that I’ve been doing as chairman over the past five years and they know that it is a lot of work to get the P.U.P. back into Belmopan. And I am the right person for chairman to get that done.”

“The objective, the primary overwhelming objective tomorrow is unity. That is our primary objective. We will try to reach out to every single body; we have to unite. That is our main focus, unity.”

Rodwell Ferguson, P.U.P. Deputy Leader, South

“I guess the people have spoken across the country of Belize. I feel very good and appreciative of that.”
