10 injured in Major Collision on the George Price Highway

There was a head on collision this afternoon at about four-thirty at mile eighteen on the George Price Highway. Two vehicles, a pickup truck and a van transporting six tourists crashed into each other.  While there were no fatalities, several persons were injured in the accident and had to be rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for urgent treatment. The driver of the pickup truck was Egbert Ferguson, who was traveling with his two nephews. The pickup truck had to be cut open to allow for Ferguson to be pulled out.  His brother Paul is the owner of the pickup truck; he was on the scene soon after the accident and says that Egbert suffered a broken leg and minor head injuries.

Paul Ferguson, Brother of Accident Victim

“I was the one that went up to Mahogany Heights today because I just purchased some stud and put some stud on the vehicle. And he was coming back down from Mahogany Heights in my truck. And they were coming from Mahogany Heights to Belize City and by eighteen miles the van was going up and that’s when the accident happened. But I can tell you that the truck can only go about thirty, thirty-five miles the max that truck can run. The truck is mine.”

“You kno0w the condition of your brother right now?”

Paul Ferguson

“Well they said that he has minor injuries to the head and a severe broken leg.”

Reporter

“Is it your nephews as well?”

Paul Ferguson

“It’s my two nephews, Adam and Kevin; they also have some minor injuries I believe also.”

Reporter

“You haven’t heard anything about the other passengers?”

Paul Ferguson

“Well I heard there were also seven other persons in the accident that were in the van. But I can’t understand how the accident occurred because if they both were on a straight way and if the truck was going slow and the van was coming with all that speed, I would like to know who is at fault.”

Reporter

“I’m not sure, but I just heard that you guys said that your brother doesn’t drink.”

Paul Ferguson

“No, no, no. He is a non-alcoholic. But they claim that they find a lot of beer bottles in the truck. That’s for me; I am a consumer of alcohol, but I consume beer and I always stick beer under the seat and in the pan of the truck. But the results would show he is a nonalcoholic; he doesn’t drink.”

Did he just admit to breaking the law on national television??? He is the owner and usual driver of the truck and he admits “That’s for me; I am a consumer of alcohol, but I consume beer and I always stick beer under the seat and in the pan of the truck.”

Mr. Officer I think we need to keep an eye on this fellow here. Next time it might be him taking the life of some innocent motorist with his lawlessness of Drinking and Driving.
