Reynolds Fined for Handling Stolen Goods

Glenroy Reynolds

In March of 2015, the Belize Traffic Department was burglarized and twenty decal license stickers were stolen. A surveillance camera picked up a security guard entering the building on Youth for the Future Drive in Belize City.  He was later charged with burglary and handling stolen goods for seven of the twenty stolen stickers.  Today, Glenroy Anthony Reynolds was additionally charged with handling stolen goods in respect of the other stickers which he handed over to police during the investigation after he was identified on a surveillance camera.  In court this morning, Reynolds attorney Chirstelle Wilson submitted that he is a first time offender with no conviction before the court. While Reynolds pleaded guilty to handling, he maintained he was not guilty of burglary so the prosecutor withdrew the burglary charged and accepted his guilty plea for handling.  Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith fined Reynolds one thousand dollars which he has to pay in full by August thirty-first. But why was Reynolds not charged for burglary? Wilson says the quality of the surveillance camera was very poor and so Reynolds’ identity cannot be ascertained.
