Sadie Vernon High holds pageant

Story PictureThe Sadie Vernon High School in Belize City has gained a reputation over the years as an institution where young girls who just can’t make it at other schools come to complete their secondary education. But don’t tell that to this group of young women, who say they are not looking for handouts, but are proudly putting their talents to work in an upcoming pageant to raise funds for their school. The event, held every two years, will feature ten young ladies vying for the title of Miss Sadie Vernon. Two of them told us what they will be doing for the talent competition.

Marcy Chan, Student, 2 Blue
?I?m taking part in the pageant because I want to raise money for my school, for the experience and just for the publicity of my school as well.?

?I will be saying a poem done by Colville Young, Respectable Lady.?

Patrick Jones
?Why did you choose that poem??

Marcy Chan, Student, 2 Blue
?I chose it because I thought it was appropriate and it was something like a comedy poem. ?

Lorraine Lino, Student. 2 Yellow
?I will be singing a song called Dreaming of You by Selena. I want people to know that the image of Sadie Vernon is appalling. Many people believe that students with low PSE scores go to Sadie Vernon and I will convince them that intelligence is not based on a score, thank you.?

The pageant will be held on the night of December third at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall. Tickets, at five dollars each, are available from students of Sadie Vernon High. Monies raised will be used to buy school supplies and fill for the schoolyard.
