Organizer Claims Debate Was a Non-Partisan Effort

Glenn Tillett

Even though the planning committee are members of the People’s United Party, the debate was not sanctioned by the party.  The organizers believe that it is time for Belizeans to have a serious conversation about issues that affect the nation.

“Was this particular event, despite the fact that it was in its nascent stage in terms of being organized, was this ever sanctioned by executive of the People’s United Party?”

Glenn Tillett, Debate Organizer

“As far as I know, no, because we never asked.  This wasn’t done as a party effort, it wasn’t a partisan undertaking.  This was being done as citizens and as voters and as people who are concerned about the future and the welfare of its nation.  Simply put.  We are people who believe that we have to enhance the public discourse.  We have to rise above the constant derogatory, denigrating and divisive conversation that ensues where politics in this country is concerned and we thought this was a great opportunity for that to happen.”

The debate was scheduled for this Thursday at the Radisson, but as we said, it is off the table.
