Pastors meet to plan future

Story Picture
Representatives of World Breakthrough Network today held a meeting for pastors and their assistants in Belize City. Thirty-five members from nine Evangelical Churches in Belize that are part of the network, sat down with a facilitator from the Trinidad-based organisation’s head office to draft a work plan for 2005. According to Senior Elder from Zoe Ministries, Pastor Ensford Maskall, the general consensus is that the church must play a more dynamic role in the life of the society in which it operates.

?Well we need to go back to basics. Number one we know that the beginning is with God. We are trying to fix our problems in our own ways of doing things and not looking to God for solutions. I believe that God gave us His word and if we listen to his word and teach the people His word then I feel we will begin to see society curb.?

Commenting on the spate of violent crimes over the weekend, Maskall says it is an indication that all is not well with the spiritual health of the nation and that the healing has to start at home.

?It is horrible and there is no doubt about that. We have seen crime escalate in our nation. This definitely is a sign that something is wrong. For a husband of a house, if the house begins to fall apart you have to look on the leadership and leadership have got to get itself together. Because whatever happens in the upper level of leadership just trickles down to the rest of the people and I think what we?re having here today is not an isolated incident. It?s a thing that is escalating on every level of our society. We see injustices on every level. So although it is a far cry of violence, but it is not surprising.?
