“You also know that Chetumal welcome thousands of tourists from Belize and we are well aware of the importance to the economy and the state. And so as I said last year, we like to see Belizeans going to Mexico, but I also reiterate that we would like to see more Mexicans coming to Belize. I think that is also important to strengthen our relationship. We are also working with local state authorities in Quintana Roo especially to promote more tourism to Mexico. You know that we are going through special economic period that has been difficult and Belize dollars that is attached to the U.S. dollar is being appreciated the value. I don’t have numbers for the last holiday season, but I am sure that many people went to Quintana Roo and Merida and other states in Mexico also because the exchange rate is very favorable to you, but also to us because we are more competitive. An agreement on terrestrial transport that we already started talks last year with the Ministry of Transport and the counterparts in Mexico. That will also foster more tourism involved race and so we hope that we will start going ahead with the negotiation of this agreement.”
