Attorneys for Titan Says G.O.B. Needs To Return Documents

Eamon Courtenay

Is government mandated to return the files taken from Titan International Securities?  That’s what we asked Courtenay today.  He says that government is yet to return a number of documents seized during the raid but that an inventory has not been taken to determine the volume of files that are outstanding.

“Are your clients getting back these documents? Where do we stand with regards to that?”

Eamon Courtenay, Attorney, Titan International Securities

“Well there are two categories—those related to the case. One of the big issues which the judge highlighted was that when the properties were seized, no inventory was taken. They have handed back documents and equipments and our clients have indicated that they have not handed back everything. So there’s an issue…government has said we’ve delivered everything we have. We have said, you haven’t delivered everything you have. Our concern is in relation to the fact that the Government of Belize has cooperated with a foreign government and handed over the documents even before this case is finished. Now that this case has said that the manner of the execution of the search was illegal, it would seem to me that the documents and the information is the product of an illegal operation. I don’t know what the U.S. Law is, but I suspect it will have a major impact on whether or not that evidence is admissible in the United States.”

Titan International Securities was represented in court by senior counsels Courtenay and Godfrey Smith, as well as attorney Illiana Swift.
