Patrick Grant Recounts Horrific Home Invasion Experience

Ninety-three-year-old Patrick Grant, a Belize City victim of a brutal home invasion that left him comatose over the Christmas weekend, is on the road to recovery after being badly beaten by a trio of thieves.  According to the elderly man, who is hearing impaired and may not have heard the intruders breaking into his house on Fern Lane, one of them told him that their visit was at the request of his daughter.  Grant, who is frequently taken for medical checkups, did not resist since he believed that indeed the men may have been there sent there by Gilda Diaz.  Upon entering the home, the men then turned on Grant and ordered him on the bed.  After instructing him to comply, one of his attackers then hit him squarely in the side of his face with what Grant describes as a steel knuckle.  The severe beating and robbery ensued thereafter.  This afternoon, News Five sat down with Grant at the Diaz residence and he recounted the frightening experience in great detail.

“In my words, it was rather frustrating because I was just sitting down right by the door and these three guys come up and they said, “Mrs. Diaz sent us to prepare you for the hospital.”  Well I didn’t argue because then she always does things like that.  Then the Spanish [Hispanic man] held me by the hand and said, “come in.”  And he put me to sit down on the bed I had there on the right hand side and he said, “if you do as I say, you wahn have much but if you don’t I have many of these to give you.”  And he boxed me right across here.  I didn’t know much from there.  Long afterwards I recovered I’d say and I felt a burning here.  When I put a hand there it was red.  Whoa!  I went to the washroom and I washed it off.  I came out by the door and I’ve always had a chair there, sat down hoping to see someone so I can call her and tell her what happened, but didn’t.  And these guys, like I said, he said, “if you do as I say you ain’t got much but if don’t you’ll have many of these to get.”  And he smacked me with that steel knuckle.  They took my VCR, my microwave, my watch.  I guess it was about two or three shirts and the same amount of pants.  I had a weed eater in there and they took that also.  It was quite a bit of stuff they took.  After he hit me like that I was unconscious and when I recovered I didn’t see any of them.  And the worst part of it is when they came in and they mentioned her name, that was the part, the key word.  I didn’t resist any.”

Thirty-five-year-old Chester Noralez, a neighbor who lives adjacent to Grant on Fern Lane, was arraigned on December twenty-ninth, 2015 for Burglary and Dangerous Harm.  There is no official word at this time whether police are looking for any accomplices.
