Accident Near Haulover Bridge, Motorists Narrowly Escape Grave Injuries

A near fatal road traffic accident along the Phillip Goldson Highway on Saturday morning preceded a deadly crash moments later.  Andre Gordon and Marvin Ramirez were traveling in opposite directions when they collided into each other a stone’s throw from the Haulover Bridge.  Fortunately, neither motorist suffered any life threatening injuries.  That pileup, however, may have been the cause of another, more deadly collision.  Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster, in a police brief this morning, gave details about both incidents.

“Over the weekend we had two traffic accidents.  The first involving a blue Chevy Equinox, license plate 51091 and a blue Ford Escort with license plate 50646.  Both were extensively damaged and we had minor injuries to individuals in this accident and at nine a.m. we had the unfortunate accident that claimed the lives of Mrs. Pamela Bennett and Mr. Alfredo Navarette. We had Mr. Andre Gordon, thirty-years-old, a Belizean security guard of a Baracat Street who was driving the Chevy Equinox and in the blue Ford Escort we had Marvin Ramirez, twenty-seven-years-old Belizean laborer of Belize City. The investigation is revealing that the blue Ford Escort was in the wrong lane when the head-on collision occurred.  The blue Ford was heading, I believe, towards Belize City.”
