A Sizeable Marijuana Haul for OW Police

The Orange Walk’s Quick Response Team made a very large drug bust on Sunday, and it is believed that it was part of a cartel shipment. That’s because the marijuana, all one hundred and eighty pounds of it, was tightly compressed, neatly packaged and all those packages were labelled with a ‘J.’ The surprising and significant discovery came at around midday on Sunday, based on information Police received.

“The Orange Walk Police Quick Response Team were patrolling an area on a feeder road off the Phillip Goldson International Highway about mile forty two and forty three where they met two male persons in the area. A search in the vicinity resulted in the discovery of nine bales of rectangular packages that were covered with black plastic bags. Police checked and found out that the bales contained suspected cannabis. Both persons found in the vicinity were arrested and escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station. At the station the drugs were weighed and totalled eighty-three point three kilograms. Both persons are detained pending charges of drug trafficking. Usually we know each drug organization or cartel as you may call it…they mark their product. We believe this is one of the markings of one of the organizations.”

Orange Walk Police would not release the names of the two men detained for suspected involvement in drug trafficking. They also have not been able to ascertain the intended destination of the drugs at this time.
