Bel Caribe Donates Christmas Hampers

Bel Caribe Communications Services stepped up the plate this year again to make the Christmas far more enjoyable to a hundred families. With the support of a number of corporate partners, they are providing the meal for Christmas to families who have members afflicted by cancer. But that’s not all because the chosen recipients will also get a supply of groceries. Duane Moody reports.

For almost a decade and around this time of the year, Bel Caribe Communication Services have been giving back to the community. This year, its Christmas Hampers to their Less Fortunate Families activity saw management and staff delivering one hundred hampers to families countrywide of children who are fighting cancer, HIV/Aids and diabetes.

“This is our ninth year that we have been doing this initiative. Every year, we try to give back to the community and we give back through our Christmas hamper initiative where we provide groceries for a month. We usually do groceries for a month to the families, but this year, we changed up a little bit because we are doing more. The previous years, we only do about twenty-five, but this year we are doing two weeks supply of general groceries and also the Christmas groceries that they need for their Christmas dinner to one hundred families.”

The lucky recipients were chosen by the staff of Bel Caribe in collaboration with organizations that work with disenfranchised persons. We caught up with them at 1000 Smiles for Cleyon, an organization that is currently working along with five children afflicted with cancer.

“We have five kids in the foundation that are in desperate need of finances and health otherwise. This is great assistance for them for Christmas because they get the finances they need from us and they are also going to get all the food items that they need to get them through the Christmas holidays.”

The donation was made possible through collaboration with Smart, PUMA, Travellers and the staff of Bel Caribe.  And the package comes with all the necessary ingredients for a Christmas dinner and more.

“I’m really grateful; I dint expect it but we are really thankful and thanks to everyone that is donating it to Aspin and I really appreciate it a lot. I’d like to give a big thanks to Miss Michelle also because if it wasn’t for her, I don’t think I would have any help because no one was going to help me for Asmin.”

“Thank you to the people from Bel Caribe who donated the items. Since Cleyon got sick, it has been very hard financially. Michelle helps every way that she can, but the foundation doesn’t get all the funds that she needs to help everyone. So she try to do the best that she could and raise funds for all of our kids. I want to say thank you to Bel Caribe; we haven’t really celebrated Christmas every year. Our main focus is Cleyon and putting our money into him getting his treatment. So thanks to them this year we will be able to have a good Christmas dinner.”

“It’s hard you know, but right now I can’t say…I am for the stuff that they donate to us for the Christmas, but I’m happy because my son is home with me for the Christmas and his chemo finished on the twenty-third of November. So right now he’s of chemo for six weeks to two months before he is expected to go back to Mexico City to do a pet scan to see if he needs additional chemo or if he is okay.”
