Salvation Army’s Christmas Party Draws Hundreds of Children

It is the season for giving and our friends at the Salvation Army are doing just that. Earlier today, as they do every year, the organization hosted children from numerous schools to their annual Christmas party. It is one of the biggest parties where the mood was celebratory. There were enough gifts and food to go around for six hundred plus, very enthusiastic children. The Regional Commander reminds that it is not only about partying, but that there is a message to the celebrations.

Major Joliker Leandre, Regional Commander, Salvation Army

“It is a yearly event in partnership with the community; we are so grateful. You know people talk about Christmas and the true meaning of Christmas is about love, sharing and caring for one another. And every year around this time we always gather children from various schools that we know that would be very much needing this kind of program. We gather them together so that we can have a wonderful time.”

“Talk to us about all that’s happening and what they receive.”

“Today, they are going to be served with lunch and after lunch, everybody will receive a gift and it is a very interesting program. We are very fortunate this year to have a well-known singer from the U.S. with us and he has come graciously to bless the children. We are so happy.”

“How was it made possible?”

Major Joliker Leandre

“It is always with the partnership with the community…Christmas Kettle, those ringing the bell; the dollars, the cheques. So it is everybody involved that makes this happen. We have to thank the City Council and their staff that comes together to help us.”
