Belize Bank and Stella Maris’ Annual Christmas Party

The joy of the holiday season was felt this morning by the children of Stella Maris School. Hosted by the Belize Bank, the children had an unforgettable party at the Radisson Hotel. Some liked the food, others practiced their dance moves and they all waited anxiously for the arrival of Santa. Duane Moody also caught the spirit of Christmas and files the following report.

A hundred and ten students from Stella Maris School in Belize City were today treated to a Christmas Party, just in time for the holidays. For the seventh year in a row the Belize Bank Limited is sponsoring the event, providing the children with the full trimmings of a Christmas meal while also engaging them in various games, face painting and even dance competitions. This year, Radisson partnered with the bank for the festive occasion.

“They are very special to us; I mean these are kids with different types of disabilities and so it gives us an opportunity to do something special for them this time of year. It’s also an opportunity for us to give recognition to the teachers as well because they also spend a tremendous amount of time dealing with kids with special needs which really requires a little bit more of time and attention. So we recognize that and we wanted to make it more special for them. This also provides us with the opportunity to actually participate a little more. So we actually have our staff who give of their time and they are also the ones who provide the gifts to these children. All of this is focused on the children so we have a list of activities that we have planned out for the day which includes face painting—that’s always very popular—balloon blowing; we had an arts and craft station that looked at making food and that kind of thing. And so everybody really engaged a whole lot and they danced and they had a good time. And we had an opportunity to spend some time with them and be able to share in their joy.”

The children waited patiently for Kris Kringle to arrive. The excitement was to the roof as around one-thirty this afternoon Santa Claus would make his presence inside the Caracol Room at the Radisson. It’s an experience that the children say they will cherish for a lifetime.
