Toledo West Area Rep Comes Out Swinging on Flood Relief Efforts

Oscar Requeña

The always feisty member for Toledo West, Oscar Requeña was on fire this morning, claiming that while Belize City residents got stoves and refrigerators, all the people of Toledo got was Ramen, and even then only a two day supply.

Oscar Requeña, Member for Toledo West

“If people in Belize City can receive television, if they can receive mattresses and refrigerators; what happened to the people of Toledo West? I will go on record and I will stand up for my people any day because that is the inequity and the injustice that we have to fight and we continue to fight. How in the name of God can the people of Belize City…we are not saying do not help them but reflect that assistance for our people in our constituency. We have been affected over and over by floods Mr. Speaker. Every single year, you now the farmers through the ministry of Agriculture that they are going to get seeds, they are going to get assistance, that never come Mr. Speaker, it never comes. People in Golden stream, people in San Vicente, people in San Benito are all the same Belizeans just like queen Square, just like Mesopotamia, just like Collet and they deserve to be treated the same Mr. Speaker.”

Wilfred Elrington, Member for Pickstock

Wilfred Elrington

“Belize City is supposed to have around sixty thousand people. If you have sixty thousand people and you divide four million by 60 you will find out that you would not have been able to give anybody more than sixty five dollars; more than sixty five dollars for flood relief.”

Jose Abelardo Mai

Jose Abelardo Mai, Member for Orange Walk South

“The member for Pickstock he says he saw refrigerators being damaged and destroyed. Well member I saw miles of corn being destroyed by the drought. The people of Belize don’t eat mattress, they don’t eat refrigerator, you know what they eat? Chicken…and the highest per capita consumption of chicken in this country is from Belize City and for you on that side who do not know that poultry feed on corn. Please understand that, learn that, you know what is for agriculture, twenty thousand dollars. And you are talking about refrigerator burn and sleep on ground what a shame.”

Some have been saying my math is weak. Who cares that that there are 30,000 in Toledo and 60,000 in Belize. Toledo is PUP so they get nothing. Those that got TVs and refrigerators are solid UDP and deserve every dollar we steal for them. It is also important to note that Toledo is mostly Mayan and it is long standing GOB policy to screw them.
