Orange Walk To Hold 5th Annual Tacos Festival

The original, authentic, annual Orange Walk Tacos Festival is back, and organizers say it will be bigger and better than ever. Going on its fifth year, the festival showcases every possible variety and style of the always popular Orange Walk tacos, with vendors competing to see who can wow the crowds from every part of the country. Dillon Jones and Robert “Checkie” Usher came up with the idea, and today Jones told us what Belizeans can expect on Sunday at the Banquitas House of Culture.

“Of course we’ll have the traditional chicken tacos…some people have the fry tacos. Some people are creative and they do their sausage tacos. They grill the sausage and roll it up with pepper and tomato sauce in a big tortilla and it goes. We can expect the pibil, the pork and the pib from chicken. There’s a guy that brings out the chicken from pib and he’ll be selling that. They also have the beef tacos that they cook on the comal, the grill style tacos, beef tacos. We have the tacos al pastor…that’s the one that spins with the fire in the back and they just slice…we have that. And that’s from Orange Walk too. It’s a Mexican style but there’s a restaurant in Orange Walk that’s coming out that’s going to be highlighting that. Grace Kennedy will be on hand to promote and sell their condiments at a promotion price so quite a lot of things you can expect this year.

I am here to today to invite especially the Belize City people because last year I didn’t do my media rounds and I got in trouble because a lot of people kept calling me, telling me I cut my style cause they didn’t know. Well now you know…it’s the twenty-second of the month, that’s this Sunday and I expect eh crowd to be even bigger and better this year.”
