Who Will Be the New P.U.P. Leader?

John Briceno

Who will be the new leader of the People’s United Party? That’s the million dollar question left hanging in the wake of the 2015 general election and the announcement of leader Francis Fonseca’s stepping down. Unofficially, we are told that there are four players in the arena – former P.U.P. leader John Briceño, current Deputy Leader Julius Espat, Cordel Hyde and first time elected Representative Kareem Musa. Briceño, Espat and Hyde held onto their seats by very convincing margins. None of the three has ever lost an election. In terms of the financial resources needed for the post of leader, popular belief is that Briceño and Espat are the frontrunners, but of course, all this is just speculation at this point, since none of the three are willing to confirm if they will make the bid. Any sitting representative who wants to run for leader would theoretically have to be successful at a National Convention of the P.U.P., likely to be held in early 2016. The party will hold a National Executive meeting on Wednesday, and we have confirmed that a way forward in terms of leadership is on the agenda. So is the matter of new Senators, since a joint sitting of the House of Representatives and Senate have been called for this Friday.

I honsestly believe johny bricenio had his fare chance where by he RESIGNED las days of the 2012 general elections because musa and fonseca was not helping him financially and he owed millions of $$$$$$$4 that he had borrowed @ the banks to move the PUP-party forward,he was elected to be leader and yes he did an exelent job in puting the party pieces together and he could have been elected PM in 2012 but he RESIGNED-and he cannot be trusted I have no confidence in johny he is a fool-fool, I believe he must come together and campaign for cordel hyde -A GRASSROOTS PEOPLEhe is the best option @ this very critical time of the PUP,yasser musa could barely win darrel bradley and julius espat is another big crocodile he cannot be trusted..and many people dont’ trust him exept said musa and francis fonseca and lambiscones that only care fi continue getting rich and leaving the majority pooor people to suffer…WE DESERVE BETTER AND GO FOR IT MR CORDEL HYDE GO FOR IT THE PEOPLE DESERVE BETTER AND U WILL NOT BETRAY US LIKE DEAN BARROW AND SAID MUSA!

If the PUP wants to get anywhere close to becoming the government of belize again, they need to listen to the people. Once again they did not, and once again it proved devastating for them. Cordel Hyde needs to be Leader if nothing else other than to show they are serious about changing the status quo. But boy, these are some hawd-aise people in the PUP.
