Taiwanese Delegation to Arrive in Belize to Meet with Ombudsman

A high level delegation from Taiwan is expected in Belize later this week. Headed by Doctor Po Ya Chang, the delegation arrives this Thursday to sign an agreement with their local counterpart, which is the Office of the Ombudsman. Po Ya Chang is the President of the Control Yuan which is the supervisory agency of Taiwan; she is accompanied by Jane Chiang, who is the chairperson of International Affairs Committee (IAC) of the Control Yuan.  They will be formalizing an agreement with Lionel Arzu, on behalf of the office of the Ombudsman which will build on the relations between the two agencies as well as to promote and safeguard human rights. The release from the Embassy of Taiwan describes the Control Yuan is an independent watchdog body comprising twenty-nine members whose term is for six years. Its mandate is to investigate complaints of malfeasance or criminal acts committed by public servants or agencies and to censure or impeach them. Members may also individually investigate allegations.
