Leader of the Opposition Meets with Council of Churches

Francis Fonseca

By this time next week Wednesday, most polls would have been closed around the country for this year’s general elections. Today, the Council of Churches urged all Belizeans to put the interest of the country above and beyond self-interest on November fourth. The council also encourages institutions of law and order to be vigilant, responsible and fair in the exercise of their duties and calls on voters to say no to any form of political intimidation or enticement or vote buying. Also today, the leader of the Opposition, Francis Fonseca, met with church leaders. The P.U.P. says Fonseca discussed the state of the educational system and the moral and spiritual direction of our society. Accordingly, Fonseca pledged his commitment and solidarity with the Church representatives for a renewed focus on and revitalization of the Church state partnership in education.  Fonseca also expressed the P.U.P.’s affirmation of and respect for the rule of law and the fundamental moral and spiritual values enshrined in our constitution including the equal and inalienable right to life of children.
