Yearwood Family Granted Compensation

But there was good news for the Yearwood family. A ruling was handed down in the case of slain police officer, Dean Yearwood who was shot and killed in September 2013 by another cop. The family took the government to court in early July of this year since the police officer accused of firing the deadly shots was never held responsible. The question of whether or not G.O.B. would have been held liable was not answered in Judge Sonya Young’s ruling, but she ordered G.O.B. to pay compensation of some sixty-five thousand dollars to the family. Attorney Phillip Palacio represented the Yearwoods, while G.O.B. was represented by Triennia Young and Agassi Finnegan of the Solicitor General’s office. After the ruling, Young said that while G.O.B. lost the case, she is still not certain of the amount of compensation or if they will appeal.  On July eighth, 2015, the trial against PC Glenwayne Grant by the Yearwood family kicked off before Judge Young.  Two witnesses were called on behalf of Yearwood, Ryan Swift and the slain cop’s father, Dean Yearwood Senior.  The prosecution called five witnesses, including Grant who maintained that on the night of the fatal shooting, he came upon a shooting, identified himself as a cop, and then opened fire. It was Yearwood who ended up dead.
