Belize City Cops Nab Southern Choice Butane Jackers

Turning to crime…Tonight, two of three suspects in a brazen daylight robbery at the premises of Southern Choice Butane Ltd., located at mile four on the Phillip Goldson Highway, are behind bars. This morning, Kevin Faber and Warren Davis were escorted in handcuffs to court for arraignment before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. They are accused of robbing the gas station and an employee of more than six thousand five hundred dollars in cash and cell phones on Monday.  Prosecutor in the case, Inspector Egbert Castillo, had heavy objections to bail on five grounds including that the alleged robbers can interfere with the victims since they know their workplace; that the case against them is strong and the two accused men may abscond and not show up for their trial. The Chief Magistrate agreed with the prosecutor and denied bail to both men and remanded them to the Belize Central Prison until December fourteenth, 2015. Officer Commanding Precinct Four of the Eastern Division, Superintendent Linden Flowers, told News Five that quick response from the police led to the detention of the perpetrators, who were stopped and searched earlier that day.

Supt. Linden Flowers, O.C., Precinct 4

“One of the butane distribution centres was robbed and the two persons that were physically taking part in the robbery were apprehended; in fact they were apprehended less than four hundred yards away and within five minutes of the call coming out, one of the persons was taken into custody. They’ve both the charged. The next one was taken into custody and along with them; it was the community help and the police alertness in the area and police on patrol that there were able to locate the second suspect. In fact, what I will say is that our stop and search strategy that is used in Precinct Four, when this robbery call came out, two of my patrol officers were able to give some description of these two persons because they had searched them a little earlier and even found identification on the persons and inquired of them what they were doing in the area. That helped us in identifying and locating the persons along with other strategies that we employed within this area.”

Supt. Linden Flowers

“No, the monies have not been recovered up until this time.”

According to Superintendent Flowers, the loot was stashed before police caught up with the perpetrators and they are currently searching the area for it.
