Outspoken Stevedore Makes His Debut for the BPP

Raymond Rivers

Outspoken unionist Raymond Rivers, a stevedore by profession, is making his foray into electoral politics by aligning himself with the Belize Progressive Party.  Rivers has thrown his hat into the ring under the banner of the newly formed labor movement and is offering himself as a candidate in Collet.  As a resident, Rivers says he is grossly disappointed with both P.U.P. and U.D.P.  He says that they have failed the youth of that constituency miserably.

Raymond Rivers, BPP Candidate, Collet

“I had P.U.P. like giving away everything in this country, I don’t have no love for P.U.P. but I don’t have no love for U.D.P. either because they came and did the same thing for eight years. I look at the youths who were eight when U.D.P. got in…today they are sixteen years of age. None of them are going to the NBA none going to none of the major sports where the millions of dollars are being made. Politician don’t understand poor people want do thing for themselves but of nothing there for them to do and only handouts then that’s what they are going to do. But if you set up something in place for the kids then we could actually bring back millions to this country. I watch it, I listen to the gang bangers them they are brothers to me, people call them gang bangers in the Collet area and in the Port area and they say they have to grab the youths and let them do these robberies and these killings because nothing is out there for them to do, my grandmother always tell me idle hand is the devil workshop. So if…all weh I d say, if you have a basketball in the youth’s hand, you have a football on their feet a baseball bat in their hands, they have enough time to generate themselves and be good basketball players and good sports players and make millions of dollars for our country and I see it, we need a change in this country. Eight to ten years of P.U.P. nothing and ten years of U.D.P. I will show you how cold Mr. Faber and the U.D.P. party. You could have ever go on the street and I know that the BPP would never do this with a person like me,…go to the public and say I am giving ten million for streets and not giving ten million to the youths. Its away that show me these people in power are elitist. They fell that they are better than we poor people, people in Collet don’t worry about free education, BPP will give you that so you don’t need to worry about that and you don’t need to worry about getting your roof fixed that is not fixed, I live in Collet and I will tell you the truth. When this election is done no roof will be fixed, my mom live in Collet and they are not fixing roofs. And I know the streets right in front of Patrick’s office biggest of hole. This many only tell you about education, education, education and show you what dah inferior education we di get.”
