Police Continue Community Meet & Greet Efforts

Community Policing moved today to Buttonwood Bay in the city. While the area is relatively crime free, it is congested with businesses which means that the flow of traffic is constant. According to the police department, residents need to be alert as they traverse through the area.

Supt. Linden Flowers, O.C., Precinct 4

“We are out here because the community need to see the police officers and there are different types of incidents that occur in this area. We are standing at a corner where there have been several traffic accidents; people coming off the highway, people traversing these residential streets…seen an increase in traffic. And we are here to let people see the police in this area. Likewise, we have different types of businesses in the area which from time to time can be attributed to an increase in traffic, persons and vehicles and citizens in the area have to appreciate and understand that we need to give back something to the community. We are asking citizens to be more attentive, more alert in giving descriptions. Couple days ago there was an incident in this area where the community helped. There was a young lady who was in need of assistance and quickly the neighbors came out and called the police and were able to give directions to the police as we pursued the perpetrator.”

Duane Moody

“Sir that was going to be my next question…is there a lot of crime happening in this area?”

“No there is not a lot of crime, but my strategy is not to wait until there is a lot of crime. We are firstly to prevent crime and if we are going to be able to be relevant to our community, we need to be in the community before an offense or a crime occurs.”
