P.M. Resents BCWU Release

Following the announcement of the settlement over the nationalization of B.T.L., the Belize Communication Workers Union fired off a nasty release aimed directly at the Barrow Administration. They followed it up with a protest and meetings with B.T.L. Executives. There’s no word of what’s come out of those meetings, but what is clear is that the P.M. did take exception to the release and to the stance of the union.

Dean Barrow, Prime Minister

“I find it outrageously derogatory but that’s freedom of speech in this country and so the press release form my point of view was entitled to say what it did. It was my understanding that very many members of the staff of B.T.L. took exception to that press release or certainly to the tone of that press release. I don’t know how that kind of language got away from the union executive because it is absolutely reprehensible cannot be justified and regrettable. But it’s there, its part of the record, we have to move on. The managers, the Board of Directors at B.T.L. must address the legitimate concerns of the workers and then we move on.”
