No Need for Alarm in Kraft Recall

On Wednesday, we reported about the voluntary recall on individually-wrapped American cheese slices, following a notice by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.  The Belize Agricultural Health Authority stated in a release that the Kraft Heinz Food Company product was being recalled. The reason is because there is a high probability that a fine ribbon of individual packaging film may be stuck to the slice after the wrapping has been removed and could potentially cause a choking hazard. As such, consumers were advised not to purchase items from any retail establishments selling the defective products. The distributors, Santiago Castillo Limited, were notified last week of the defected cheese and according to Marketing Manager, Cassia Castillo-Marin, it has since been compiled, confiscated and handed over to BAHA. Castillo-Marin says there is no need for alarm.

“On September third, last week, was the first time we heard about the recall. We got an official email from the Kraft Heinz Company and that’s where they informed us of the recall. There were several different items that were involved—all of them being craft singles, but of different packaging sizes. Immediately we did our due diligence. We checked with our three supermarkets as well as our three distribution centers countrywide. And luckily there was only one single item that was affected within the dates and the codes. It was the Kraft Singles-Three Pound; this is a very big presentation so luckily it is not a presentation that a lot of customers normally carry. The codes that we affected, just so everybody could be aware, were S-54 and S-55 through the dates December twelfth and December eighteenth. We got a total of twenty cases that were affected by the time we compiled them. We looked back the past two months and looked into all the customers that had purchased this particular item, our sales representatives went and checked with them and we got back all the affected cases which BAHA has already picked up and I’m sure have been confiscated. So the public can rest assure, there is no need to worry; we have taken care of it. Everybody is safe and we can continue eating our grilled cheese sandwiches as per normal.”
