Queen of Bacchanal Touches Down in the Jewel

Destra Garcia

Tonight, there are a number of concerts in the city to bring in the Tenth of September. Top names from the Caribbean began arriving since last week. Among them is Queen of Bacchanal, Destra Garcia, who will be performing at the Carnival Overload Concert at the Hour Bar Field. The Caribbean mega soca artist touched down today at the P.G.I.A. and came straight to our studios. It is her third visit to the Jewel and she promises her performance will be better than ever.

Destra Garcia, Soca Artist

“This is my third time. After the first time, the second time was better and then this will be the third time so I expect tonight will be awesome. And it is my first time with my band so great even better…usually perform much better with my band and I’m already awesome so you know it is going to be crazy.”

Duane Moody

“One of the biggest things that we see is that when you are doing your performance, you are really interacting with the crowd and getting them involved. Is that what we are going to expect tonight?”

Destra Garcia

“Of course, of course…even more so. Unlike when you perform with tracks, I try to get that live feel, but it is not the same. With my band now, I can do whatever because they know me. So if at the spur of the moment, I say this crowd looking like if I sing this song here it will do well, I can do anything. So I feel really excited. You have a lot of ups and downs in a career that has lasted more than a decade. First of all being relevant for so long is difficult, especially for a woman. It is so hard to stay informed, crate good music in a world that is still dominated by males. Being a female that is recognized worldwide and staying that way for such a long time, it is difficult. But what I can say is the fans make it very easy and I do applaud the younger artists that appreciate fans because without your fans you are nothing. You can’t snob your fans; they are the ones that buy your records, they are the ones that request your presence everywhere. And they keep me going; they keep me young at heart. My passion for music has never died, will never die. I’ve been on stage since I was ten years old and music is my life and my passion. And so with that passion and that driving force and energy, it is easy as long as I focus on what’s really important. I don’t need to tell them why dehn should come, they just need to come because I am here and we have Kes and we have Ricardo Dru and my band is going to be here for the first time. And apart from what you gonna get tonight, you know we looser than Lucy. (Sings) Trust me if yo don’t believe that, come out tonight, you’d see.”
