Who Will Be the Next Mayor Should Bradley Win in General Elections?

Darrell Bradley

Belize City Mayor, Darrell Bradley, is yet to win the Caribbean Shores elections; in fact, a date for the elections is still not known. But Bradley says he is putting things in place at City Hall should he emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.  While his demission from office would automatically trigger a bye-election, Bradley seems to be placing his bet on former Deputy Mayor Deon Leslie, who wants to succeed him at City Hall.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“In relation to City Hall, we are already talking about how the transition would work and of course I think that we have a significant amount of competent people at City Hall who can continue the reigns in office.  I have said it before that Deon Leslie has been a tremendous friend of mine.  He has expressed to me personally that he wanted to aspire to the Office of Mayor even when there was a problem in relation to my submitting his name.  He acted as mayor before during the period when Zenaida Moya took maternity leave.  He’s been in the council for three terms going into his fourth term, so I’m like very satisfied and confident in terms of the discussions that we have had that there will be a smooth transition into new leadership at City Hall.  I’m very pleased with the technical staff and the development that they have made.  The City Administrator, our Director of Finance, our auditor, our Director of legal Affairs, all of City Hall really puts in a hundred and ten percent and then also at the council level, I’m satisfied that the people there have the experience and vision and wherewithal to really continue the work that I think we have been able to do over the last three years.  So I think the transition will be smoother, of course there has to be a bye-election in terms of a mayor demitting office but that’s something that will be worked out in the appropriate time.  But in relation to the continuity of the work that we have been able to do I am satisfied that we will be able to continue.”

  1. Ricky Malthus says:

With all these high brow black people with all that talent in charge, we still can’t walk leisurely the streets of Belize at nightfall unless you want to commit suicide. Statistics indicate that more than 5,000 persons lost their lives to date in Belize because of violence. That translates into 6, 400,000 dead in the USA, 2,500,000 in Mexico; 500,000 in Syria. Belize is indeed a God made paradise but a man made Hell.
