Brigadier General Says Cadenas Change-over Not Limited to Tuesdays

So, is the BTV squandering precious resources in trekking to the Sarstoon River weekly in an attempt to shadow the B.D.F. substitution at Cadenas?  On Tuesday morning, Wil Maheia, along with Yaya Marin Coleman and COLA’s liaison officer Harley Burn, headed out early in hopes of witnessing the change-over.  Despite a timely arrival, the mission would be disappointed when mid-morning came and went with no sign of a B.D.F. watercraft.  What they did observe however, was the illegal harvesting of fisheries within the area.  According to Brigadier General David Jones, while Tuesday has long been established as the day when officers stationed at the outpost are alternated, a schedule for the substitution is not set in stone.

“In the prime minister’s press conference a week and a half or so ago, he was mentioning that there is a routine changing of the guard, so to speak, at Cadenas on Tuesday.  The BTV went in there again yesterday and this time they attempted to go in early enough to be able to actually witness or observe this changing over and, according to Wil Maheia, that was not so.  Is there a specific schedule as to how this works or is there a reason as to why this did not take place yesterday?”

“We, routinely, for decades have been going on Tuesdays.  For administrative reasons it’s perfect for us but for security reasons we don’t always go on a Tuesday.  We change the days and dates whenever we see fit.  As far as our ministry is concerned, as far as our prime minister is concerned that’s the way we have been doing business.  We don’t need to go and inform the prime minister that we are not going this Tuesday, that we’re going Wednesday or Thursday and I don’t see the need to inform the nation when the BDF is going through there.  For security reasons we will not.  We will definitely not always go on Tuesdays for security reasons.  Now the public is aware that for the most part we go there on Tuesday and we will continue to change our routine.  There is no set Tuesday that you can definitely say we are going there because there are things that occur at the mouth of the Sarstoon sometimes that we cannot arrest if we go on the routine time.  When we go out of the routine we can arrest some of the situation that occurs in Belizean waters.  So we have been varying our days in the past and we will continue to do it, so if they choose to go on a Tuesday and we’re not there it’s not because we haven’t been going there in that week.  They will not know what they we will be going through there.”
