Finnegan and Dolores Trade Words During House Meeting

Dolores Balderamos Garcia

Quite aside from the back and forth on the Fortis settlement, there was the usual bickering we’ve come to know and dislike at the sittings of the House of Representatives. That came early in today’s debate as Belize Rural Central area rep., Dolores Balderamos-Garcia, expressed that nationalization has to benefit the people, or it’s meaningless. That woke up U.D.P. whip, Michael Finnegan, who has a special place in his heart for Balderamos-Garcia.

“If I talk about nationalization, Mr. Speaker, I want to see that the nationalization has real meaning. Today, Mr. Speaker, I believe it is a wonderful, a beautiful day for Fortis; a beautiful day for shareholders who are going to be getting their dividends. But where is the benefit to the consumers of Belize Rural Central and Belize on a whole. Where is that real benefit? Nationalization must have real meaning. We must not think it as a simple, simple word.”

“I am prepared to bet my life against a bucket of those things that they use to carry to the canal. That she won’t come back when the Prime Minister decides to call the elections. They are too dishonest, intellectually dishonest; Beverly Castillo will beat her and beat her bad. Remember from Fort George, I swear, she will beat him – those people are hard to like. Anyway, Mr. Speaker, you see she came here the first thing she has to tell you, I just said what benefit Belizeans get by the acquisition of B.E.L.  My God man, look how much time the light bill has gone down, look how low your light bill.”
