Double Fatality in Road Traffic Accident

On Friday night, we showed you the fatal traffic accident that took two lives between miles six and seven on the Philip Goldson Highway, earlier that evening around five thirty. The victims have since been identified as thirty-year-old Shane Goff and fifty-two-year-old Alden Locke. According to police, a four door car driven at the time by twenty-four-year-old Eaton Belisle was traveling from Belize City to Ladyville and upon miles six and seven the car lost control and collided into a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction.  That vehicle was driven by fifty-one-year-old Yaun Sheng He. When police arrived on the scene, an extensively damaged four door car was on the side of the road, as well as a pickup truck. Both Locke and Goff who were suffering from head and body injuries were seen lying next to the truck. Travelling at the time with Belisle were thirty-year-old Kimberly Myers and twenty-two-year-old police officer Kirk Broaster. All three received varying degree of injuries. Goffe and Locke were in the truck with Sheng He, along with eighteen-year-old Javan Logan. Both Logan and Sheng He received head and body injuries. Locke and Goff, who were employees of Gar Wong Glass Shop on Coney Drive, were pronounced dead shortly after seven at the K.H.M.H. Notices of Intended Prosecution were served to both drivers as investigations continue. On Friday, we spoke with Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster. Here’s what he had to say.

“Preliminary investigation thus far has revealed that we had two vehicles overtaking the line of traffic. One managed to squeeze into the lane; the white Mercedes failed to get into the lane and collided into the white pickup truck. As a result of that, we had two fatalities from the pickup truck. The driver has been escorted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital along with four others from out of the white Mercedes.”

“Could you confirm for us the white pickup truck was heading down to Belize City.”

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

“The white pickup was heading down to Belize City and the Mercedes was heading towards Ladyville.”

Mike Rudon

“Could you say how many persons were in the white car?”

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

“Like I said, preliminary investigation reveal that four people were in the white car while three was in the pickup; the two fatalities that we have were from the pickup truck.”

Mike Rudon

“Basically would you say that speeding is a problem in this area between Haulover and Ladyville?”

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

“Well for a time now, yes speeding has been a big problem between Belize City and Ladyville hence the reason that we are looking forward to putting a dedicated highway patrol from Haulover Bridge to Burrell Boom Junction to deal with speeding and reckless driving in this area.”
