Expo for the Youths in Celebration of International Youth Day

International Youth Day was observed on Wednesday under the theme Youth Civic Engagement and today the Department of Youth Services led the charge with a youth expo at the ITVET. News Five stopped in at the expo where we spoke with the Public Relations Officer Sabreena Daly about the importance of today’s event.

“Basically, what we are doing here today is just youth and youth led organizations are gathered here and they are pretty much showcasing their services and things that they have to offer from their organizations. It is also a day that we can bring awareness to the young people and have them be informed because many of the young people might think that they have nothing to do, but this day is important because they can come and see what all we have to offer for them. There are positive initiatives out there for them to be a part of.”

“Talk to us about some of the organizations that are out are represented here and some of the services?”

Sabreena Daly

“Okay. So, there are some that are political and non-political, particularly Guidelight Productions that I am a part of. Today is actually registration day so young people were able to come out and register. It goes to as small as pretty much just coming out and giving your services, for example, there is a guy behind us giving free haircuts. So, it is really nice to see the adults coming out and helping. There are many organizations out here that are giving information to the young people that came and really wants to know what’s happening. Adults- parents came and it is a gathering where we can see unity being formed.”
