Chamber of Commerce and DFC Sign MOU…

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Development Finance Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding earlier today.  The mutual partnership will see both organizations strengthening their respective services to members and clients through access to shared resources.  While the DFC is primarily a commercial lending institution, the alliance will allow for facilitation and access to seed capital.  According to C.E.O. Kim Aikman, the Chamber of Commerce had been considering and looking into the possibility of the partnership since 2014.

“In December of last year the Chamber looked at how we could have expanded our outreach to people or to businesses throughout the country and we were looking for a potential partner and we started discussions with the Development Finance Corporation since we had clients in common.  We also had different services that we offered in common and we decided to try to pursue an MOU which finally came into fruition today. And I guess you can explain the terms of the MOU.”

For our part, the Development Finance Corporation has been for the past few years, been looking at how we can establish partnerships. As you all are aware, partnerships is the way to go right now and a couple years ago, we entered into an MOU with the Small Business Development Center or BELTRAIDE and so this is the second of such partnership that we are entering into, mainly for the benefit of our clients who are the people of Belize. What we are trying to do here is trying to see how we can reach out to businesses through the Chamber, but at the same time offer a better quality of service. Some of the things that the Chamber will afford B.D.F.—if I could just mention some of them—we will get a listing of the membership through the Chamber; they will on our behalf disseminate promotional materials at the different Chamber offices; they will apprise DFC of upcoming BCCI events in which DFC can participate; place DFC logo on Chamber’s membership brochure and actively advertise and promote the DFC among the membership of the Chamber.”
