Uchbenka Executive Weighs in on Myles

Isidoro Makin

The Uchbenka K’in Ajau Association, the management body tasked with overseeing the preservation of the Uxbenka sacred site, has elected a new executive.  The incoming leadership of the association has also weighed in on the Institute of Archaeology’s move to prosecute Rupert Myles for unlawful occupation, as well as destruction of the monument.  According to Isidoro Makin, the association will continue to monitor the situation concerning Myles’ removal.

“We will hold the charge against Mr. Myles because he has been doing a lot of destruction to our site.  As we had seen yesterday he has been continuing to plant some more coconut trees, plantain, bananas, yes, a lot of plants growing up there.”

Isani Cayetano

“Has the association, in light of what has happened with Mr. Myles, you mentioned just now [that] he continues to plant and harvest and other activities around the area.  Have you guys approached him to try to have him cease and desist or stop the activity that’s taking place there?”

Isidoro Makin

“No we haven’t yet but we will see what we can do.”

Isani Cayetano

“I know that that is one of the conversations that came up in the discussion that you guys had earlier with regards to this recent development.  What is the opinion of the association and its membership and residents of Santa Cruz on the news coming from the Institute of Archaeology?”

Isidoro Makin

“Well with that we hold with the management plan we have for the Mayan site.  We’ll continue to do the proper procedures we have for the community and we have a management plan as to how to manage the Maya site.”
