Jaguars Take on Canada in 3rd Round

The Belize Jaguars will be taking on the Canucks in Toronto on September fourth, as both teams advance to the third round of competition in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.  The much anticipated ticket follows a draw over the weekend where Canada was chosen as the next challenger on the road to Russia.  That selection presently ranks one hundred and three on the FIFA chart and is led by team Captain Julian de Guzman.  The Canada men’s national soccer team is also a member of CONCACAF and recently took part in the 2015 Gold Cup where the team failed to leave an impression on the scoreboard in the three games it played.  Nonetheless, the Jaguars are sizing up the competition and, despite the Canucks’ lackluster outing, are not taking their eyes off the team.  This afternoon, News Five spoke with Senior Executive Marlon Kuylen who spoke about preparations for the upcoming series.

“On Saturday we drew Canada and we will travel to Toronto to play at the B.M.O. Field on September fourth.  We then return to Belize and play at the F.F.B. Stadium on September eighth which will be a Tuesday at seven p.m.  We beat the Dominican Republic five to one in aggregates to advance to the third round which we are now heading to Canada for.”

“Have you had a chance to look at the Canadian team to see whether or not Belize can post some kind of formidable challenge against this team?  What do you know about the Canadian team so far?”

Marlon Kuylen

“From what I saw in the Gold Cup, in the recent Gold Cup, I was not that impressed.  Yes, they are still a strong team because they made it to the Gold Cup but some of the matches I saw them play, I wasn’t that impressed with them.  Yes, they are still strong but I think we match up good against them.  In fact, they never scored a goal in the Gold Cup competition in the three matches they played.”
