Training Continues for Local CEBO Reps

Hilary Brown

But the visit by the regional delegation is also to establish local CEBO trainers in an effort to sustain this youth and entrepreneurship effort locally.

Hilary Brown, Program Manager, Culture & Community Development, CARICOM Secretariat

“Initially, we only trained three facilitators in the CEBO methodology from each of the countries in a regional workshop. But we realize that if we want CEBO to be rolled out more at the national level, then we need to do national trainings. And so that we have more young people available at the national level who are well0versed in the CEBO methodology and can help to train more young people around Belize. So at the same time we are doing follow-up with the original CEBO graduates, we are also doing a national training of trainers where we are having fifteen young people from Belize who will now be introduced to the CEBO methodology for the first time. So you will have a cadre of people who can help to train other young people in CEBO and help to give them that start and fresh perspective which so many of our CEBO graduates have told us, going through this program really gave them that fresh perspective on life; that feeling that they can finally make a contribution to their country and that they can really turn around their own lives. So that has been, I think for us, the most rewarding part of CEBO. As much as we want to see more businesses grow, we also really appreciate whenever we see a young person reenergized and enthusiastic about their future because that’s the first step towards success.”

Since its introduction, the Bahamas and Dominica are the two CARICOM member states that have experienced the greatest success through the CEBO initiative.
