Anthony Sabal Remains P.U.P. Dangriga Standard Bearer…

In his first crack at electoral politics, retired educator Anthony Sabal was squarely routed by his former student, Frank ‘Papa’ Mena, by a margin of fifty-nine to forty-one percent at the polls.  So, what’s his future with the P.U.P.?  Well, according to party leader Francis Fonseca, all efforts are being made to have Sabal remain as standard bearer in Dangriga.  Sabal is being commended by his party for a valiant effort, despite obvious time constraints.

“We are fully committed to Mr. Sabal continuing on as our standard bearer in Dangriga.  That is certainly my position and I have not had a, I spoke to Mr. Sabal of course since the election results and we have talked but we haven’t talked about that future.  But certainly in his statements that he made last night he has made it clear that the fight continues and he is there for the long haul.  That was always his position, he was there preparing for a general elections.  This bye-election popped up and he was very courageous in saying I will stand and fight in this bye-election even though I’ve only been here a few weeks and I think that has to be commended.  We appreciate that, his courage.  It could have been easy for him to walk away and say, listen I came in for a general election; I wasn’t counting on any bye-election three weeks after I announced my candidacy.  Nobody could have condemned him for walking away but he stood up bravely and ran a very, very spirited, I think, campaign which we can all be proud of and I certainly am going to do everything I can to make sure that he remains the P.U.P. standard bearer in Dangriga and has an opportunity to win that seat in the next general elections.”
