The Testy Back and Forth Between Senators Thimbrel and Shoman

Juliet Thimbrel

And inside the Senate on Wednesday, things got testy between Senators Thimbrel and Shoman. The U.D.P. senator said that the “U.D.P. Government” is spending the monies wisely and that the proof is in the pudding. Well, the way the “debate” was going didn’t seem to sit well with Shoman. Here’s how that exchange went.

Juliet Thimbrel, U.D.P. Senator

“We will go down as a government who applied what belong to the people, to them, as opposed to not telling the people. Not one single thing that was done with the Petrocaribe money prior to the UDP Government. We have not heard one thing; whether a street was built; whether a drain side was built; whether a classroom was built and they had millions, upon millions upon millions, prior to us coming in as a government. Just give us a list. I thought the Leader of the Opposition would have given us a list and said this is what we did when we were in government.”

Lisa Shoman, P.U.P. Senator

“On a point of order, Mr. President.”

President of Senate

“What’s your point of order, Senator?”

Lisa Shoman

Lisa Shoman

“There is no Petrocaribe money before you started spending it. So, please no Petrocaribe money.”

Juliet Thimbrel

“Mr. President, I think she needs to check with her leaders as there was Petrocaribe money. She needs to go to the Ministry of Finance. We have a twenty two million dollar bridge being built now for the people of San Ignacio. I believe the contract was just signed with Cisco. When that bridge is finished we will see. You drive into Cayo and you can see everywhere where Petrocaribe has touched. We nuh the talk behind wah lane or round wah back or so, we nuh the holler how we nuh get no money like the leader of the opposition. On the other hand, we have wah next thing yah weh deh borrow nineteen point nine million US dollars from Provident Bank, man, man fuh vehicle, we nuh see no vehicle.”

Lisa Shoman

“I am on my feet, President. The point of order is that, we are debating the bill and while I appreciate where she is going, I think she has been given enough latitude Mr President. We should be debating the bill.”

Juliet Thimbrel

“But it is the bill we are debating. I am telling you what we did with the money. It is the Petrocaribe bill. I am standing here telling you what we all doing with the money as oppose to you staying there denying that you got money.”

    Sad that:

    1. instead of coming together as professionals to agree or peacefully disagree and most importantly, FIND a SOLUTION; these 2 get into a back and forth — that really and truly, gets nothing solved.

    2. many, many, many people here in south side Belize City really only have ramen to eat most days and nothing other days; some babies go to bed without any food in their stomach; this is their reality – I speak as someone who sees it happen — yet, the few who can really afford much more — can stand at the National Assembly and defend the misuse of Petrocaribe monies…

You damn right Juliet, the proof is in the “pudding” and you had too much pudding to eat. Look at you, barely made it through Pallotti. Yeah, I know you, as a younger girl and through one of Belize’s greatest educators. Now, you’ve become a con artist; running through Free Zone with your contraband to sell and for your “All Girls’ Parties.” Building apartments in Ladyville. It’s amazing how the Belizean public let a lot of you members of government get away with obvious theft. So, leave that pudding alone Juliet. It’s not healthy for you.
