MOE Says More Teachers to be Trained

Candy Armstrong

The initiative was designed to offer information, training and support to schools.  It commenced in the 2014/2015 academic year with twelve schools.  The introductory step continues to grow and principals, teachers and members of the school communities will be trained and supported.

Candy Armstrong, Director, Educational Support Services, MOE

“This training is for the general and local managers of primary schools and research persons that support the school management.  It’s a training to equip them to facilitate positive behavior, interventions and support systems in primary schools.  It’s a proactive, preventative system of behavior management.  After the two-day session the trainers are expected to go back as I said to facilitate the process to guide and coach teachers and principals into implementing strategies that are part of the entire system.”

“In terms of this particular move, is it recent, in the wake of the removal or corporal punishment from the classrooms or is it a trend that you guys have noticed that requires either some kind of educational awareness on what the interventions are or what have you?”

“It’s a combination of both, effective teaching and classroom management go hand in hand and so the fact that teachers are expected to deliver content in the classroom they are expected to be able to be good classroom managers and be able to manage student behaviors.  Yes, of lately with the policy and in addition to that with some of the challenges that some of our young students and children now face, we have realized that we need to continue to build competencies and to bring teachers and principals up to par to improve their own skills in terms of dealing with some of those challenging behaviors that we face now.”

That sounds good, we need teachers that meet the challenge of today`s students.
I mean…hell, because your beloved husband gave you a slap , for instance, I don`t see it right that you go vent your anger in school.
