MIT Seizes AK-47 and Ammo

Police have made a huge bust of an arsenal that includes a high powered weapon as well as a hundred and six live rounds of ammunition and have arrested two men. Just before six o’clock on Monday, a passenger bus heading west from Belize City was stopped by the Mobile Interdiction Unit between miles thirty-one and thirty-two on the George Price Highway. In the search of the bus, police found two loaded kitbags. The biggest find was an AK-forty seven rifle with two magazines. In the second black bag, police found twenty-five rounds of seven point six-two ammunition, fifty-two live nine millimetre rounds, ten point thirty-eight rounds and nineteen point forty-five live rounds of ammunition. A duo travelling in the bus, twenty-five year old construction worker Ruben Avalos Martinez of Alta Vista Village and twenty-three year old fisherman Guillermo Salazar of the San Mateo area in San Pedro were detained and are expected to be charged with Kept Prohibited Firearm and two counts of Kept Ammunitions. Both were remanded to prison until September thirtieth.
